When I first signed up for the Cross-Country Challenge in the Spring of 2024, it was solely for the personal satisfaction of setting a huge goal, developing a plan to achieve it, having the personal discipline to execute that plan and then step-by-step achieving that goal – one mile at a time. While I had always planned to document this trip in one way or another, I started to look into creating a website for that purpose. What better way to share the experience with family and friends? But as I thought more about it, I realized that through a website, I might be able to generate some financial support for 2 non-profit organizations that I think have made Georgetown County, SC such a better place to live. The YMCA and Teach My People (“TMP”) are two organizations that fit that bill – while these are not “religious” organizations, they both operate on Christian principles and provide opportunities for everyone that comes in the door, regardless of their financial circumstances, to thrive and reach their full potential. Neither the YMCA nor TMP are sponsoring this ride and this fundraising is my own effort. So, if you might be reading this blog, please know that there are many unmet needs in Georgetown and Horry County, SC that could be addressed with your financial support. I hope that you will consider a generous donation of any amount to both of these outstanding organizations. Any financial support that you can provide is meaningful to me and I greatly appreciate your generosity. In memory of my parents, Jan and Bill Duke and in honor of my wife’s parents, Erble and Bill Creasman, Val and I have made a meaningful donation to both the YMCA and Teach My People to kick this ride off – I hope that you will join us!
